Aamir Khan Faces Fatwa Over Marriage To Gauri Spratt; Cleric Objects To Interfaith Union, Calls It 'Against Sharia'

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has found himself at the center of a fresh controversy following his recent marriage to longtime partner Gauri Spratt. Days after the couple tied the knot in an intimate ceremony, a Muslim cleric has reportedly issued a fatwa against the actor, objecting to his marriage with a non-Muslim woman and calling the union impermissible under his interpretation of Islamic law.

According to reports, Maulana Ibrahim Hussain, the Shahi Chief Mufti of the Muslim Personal Darul Ifta, publicly criticised Aamir's third marriage. In a video that has now gone viral on social media, the cleric stated that a Muslim man marrying a non-Muslim woman is "haraam" and claimed that such a marriage is not permitted under Sharia. He also reportedly questioned Aamir's decision to marry for the third time, saying it sends the wrong message to the community.

The controversy erupted just days after Aamir and Gauri officially registered their marriage on July 5 in a private ceremony held at the actor's Bandra residence. The wedding was attended by close family members and a few friends from the film industry, with the couple choosing to keep the celebrations away from the public spotlight.

Aamir had earlier confirmed that he and Gauri were ready to take their relationship to the next level after being together for some time. The actor had previously shared that while he once believed he would never marry again, meeting Gauri changed his perspective on relationships and commitment.

The actor was previously married to Reena Dutta, with whom he shares two children, Junaid and Ira Khan. He later married filmmaker Kiran Rao in 2005, and the former couple welcomed son Azad before announcing their separation in 2021. Despite parting ways, Aamir and Kiran have continued to co-parent their son and maintain a cordial professional relationship.

As news of the fatwa spread online, social media witnessed mixed reactions. While some users supported the cleric's views based on religious beliefs, many others defended Aamir's personal choice, arguing that marriage is a private matter and should remain free from public or religious scrutiny.

Neither Aamir Khan nor Gauri Spratt has issued any official statement regarding the fatwa or the cleric's remarks so far. Their team has also remained silent on the controversy, even as the issue continues to generate widespread discussion across social media and entertainment circles.
